FLYING STARLINERS:
The Journey of Trans-Texas Airways
Trans-Texas Airways got its start with the establishment of Aviation Enterprises, Ltd., in 1940 by Richard Earl McKaughan, Sr. This marked the inception of his involvement in the aviation sector, encompassing aircraft sales, repairs, operations, and a pilot training school.
The company achieved a significant feat by training over a thousand female pilots during World War II. Transitioning to Trans-Texas Airways in 1947, the airline rapidly expanded its service network and fleet throughout Texas.
In 1969, it transformed into Texas International Airlines with its new international service, standardizing its fleet and introducing innovative fare strategies like "Flying for Peanuts." Texas International acquired Continental Airlines in 1982 and continued under the Continental name.
Eventually, Continental merged with United Airlines in 2010, becoming the world's largest airline.
